“Beyond Borders: A City Embracing the Space Between Land and Sea” — 436 Works by 125 Artists from 14 Countries

The 2025 Incheon International Contemporary Photography Exhibition runs through November 12 at the Incheon Culture & Arts Center Grand Exhibition Hall, featuring 436 works by 125 artists from 14 countries. This large-scale event marks a symbolic moment as Incheon emerges as a global harbor of contemporary art.

Under the theme “Beyond Borders: A City Embracing the Space Between Land and Sea,” the exhibition explores the “aesthetics of in-between spaces” inherent to Incheon as a port city, opening a global dialogue through contemporary photography.

The opening ceremony drew more than 300 guests, including leading figures from the art world and local citizens. Notable attendees included Woo-Sung Cho, former Director of the Incheon Metropolitan City Museum; Dr. Won-Young Choi of the Humanities Club Takas; Soo- Chan Yoo, Chairman of the Photographic Artists Association of Korea; senior advisors Jong-Ho Kim and Kun-Soo Cho; Jae-Up Kim, President of the Incheon Federation of Arts & Culture; City Council member Sung-Sook Jang; Tae-Sung Park, Senior Secretary for Culture and Welfare; and Byung-Yong Yoo, the first artist honored in the “Legend Incheon” section.

The ceremony opened with Harmony of Colors, a celebratory performance by artist Seo Soon-Hee and the Multicultural Arts Ensemble. Through vivid light and sound, the performance symbolized Incheon’s identity as a multicultural city where diverse cultures coexist in harmony.

No-Cheon Kim, General Director of iiCP 2025 and Director of the Korean Institute for Visual Arts and Culture, stated in his opening remarks: “This exhibition is the realization of a twenty-year dream to host an international photography biennale in my hometown, Incheon. Incheon will go beyond being a ‘city of borders’ to become a global cultural city that embraces the aesthetics of in-between spaces.”

During the opening, the 2025 iiCP Artist Awards were also presented: Hall 1 – International Section Artist of the Year: Rafal Milach (Poland)
Excellence Awards: Thalassini Douma (Greece), Al Brydon (UK), Lena (Korea)
